A Southern Dream
Some places don’t just give you a place to sleep—they invite you to step into another era.
My stay at Twelve Oaks Bed & Breakfast in Covington, Georgia, was exactly that: timeless, elegant, and steeped in Southern charm.
As a TVD fan, I have always had this on my bucket list ever since I saw the show!
First Impressions: Historic Elegance Meets Warm Hospitality
Walking through the door felt like entering a living museum—one that’s still warm, welcoming, and wonderfully alive. High ceilings, antique furnishings, and period details surround you at every turn, yet nothing feels stuffy or untouchable. Instead, the home invites you to slow down, linger, and truly savor the experience.
The hospitality was just as memorable as the setting. The staff made me feel instantly at home and asked if I had any specific dietary restrictions they should be aware of. Thankfully, I do not, but that is something you don’t get asked often while traveling.
Take a moment to chat and explore the home, and if you have time, join the owner from 5-6 for some appetizers and wine.
The Rooms: Classic, Comfortable, and Full of Character
Plush bedding, elegant décor, bath robes hanging by the shower, and sunlight streaming through tall windows made it the perfect retreat after a day of exploring Covington. It was quiet, peaceful, and effortlessly relaxing—exactly what you want when you’re escaping everyday life.
Every room at Twelve Oaks has its own personality, which makes the experience feel intimate rather than cookie-cutter. It’s the kind of place where you wake up feeling rested, inspired, and just a little transported in time.
The property has recently undergone restoration, and I was blown away by the attention to detail in each room. Don’t even get me started on the shower!

Breakfast Worth Lingering Over
I’m actually disappointed in myself for not getting a picture of the plate!
Mornings at Twelve Oaks deserve their own spotlight. Breakfast is served in true Southern fashion—thoughtfully prepared, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. It’s not just a quick bite before heading out; it’s an experience meant to be enjoyed slowly, preferably with coffee in hand and conversation flowing.
After breakfast, I spent time on the porch, soaking in the peaceful surroundings. The gentle quiet, the creak of rocking chairs, and the breeze through the trees made it hard to rush off anywhere.

If Those Walls Could Talk
The property was built in 1863 and has passed through the hands of multiple owners through the years. Each one leaves a piece of history to remember them by, from the beginning of Sherman’s March to the Sea, to the iconic property we know today.
Since becoming a bed and breakfast, they have received numerous awards and compliments on their hospitality and southern charm. The service is unlike anything you will experience at a hotel or even an expensive resort.
