The courtroom scene was filmed at the Newton County Historic Courthouse in downtown Covington. The shooting spanned about 3-days and heavily involved the local community. Covington was also used as the main town of ‘Bomont’ for other aspects.

Ren’s arrival in Bomont is filmed in front of Salon on Main, and the historic ‘Elliot-Shipp house‘ was also used during filming.

Senoia, GA
The Senoia Raceway (often referred to as Senoia Dirt Track) is a 3/8 mile oval dirt track in the heart of Georgia. The track was used as the backdrop for the pivotal moment when we see the true side of Ariel (Julianne Hough) at the beginning, and also a few other small shots throughout the film.

Kennesaw, GA
The memorable bar dancing scene was filmed at Kennesaw’s Cowboys nightclub, later renamed, Electric Cowboy. Unfortunately, the bar has recently closed due to the complex being demolished to make room for a new $65 million complex. 1

Acworth, GA
Several heartfelt church and family scenes were filmed at the historic Acworth Presbyterian Church. This charming white-steepled church provided an authentic Southern backdrop adding emotional depth and a sense of small-town tradition.

Marietta, GA
R.L. Osborne High School in Marietta, founded in 1892, stands in for Bomont High, where Ren (Kenny Wormald) first meets Willard (Miles Teller) and the notable drug/library scenes. The school has a dedicated frame of the crew’s handprints as a tribute to its cinematic debut.


Bostwick, GA
The climactic prom finale, and the grain mill where Ren lands a part-time job were filmed at the historic Bostwick Cotton Gin in Bostwick. This working cotton gin, one of Georgia’s few still operational, provided an atmospheric and authentic setting and even housed their trucks and trailers during production in a nearby cotton field.

Atlanta, GA – Starlight Drive-In

In the film, it’s where teens secretly gather at night—dancing on the lawn and socializing in defiance of the town’s strict no‑dance ordinance. The theater has been operating since 1949 and remains in business today.
