Travel during off-season
- Everything is cheaper during the off-season. Unless you’re going for a specific occasion, I suggest traveling when there are no planned events or major holidays.

Pay with cash
- Many touristy areas charge an extra tax in addition to the fees associated with using a card. It is best to avoid these extra fees by paying with cash. You can also track your spending and know exactly what your remaining budget is for the trip.

Book in advance
It is recommended to book between 2-3 weeks in advance. Generally, hotels begin to decrease the pricing as the week goes by due to supply and demand. The best day to book your hotel is on a Friday, or Saturday. Avoid the beginning of the week as this is when most people plan their vacations.
“As a general rule of thumb, booking more than 21 days ahead of your arrival date is a no-no for the most popular destinations”

Travel rewards
- If there is a rewards plan, you can best believe I’m using it. Some companies require you to use an app on a mobile device to earn the rewards, others do not. I use booking.com, and hotels.com the most. I recently stopped using Expedia as much due to the change in their rewards program. I found that I was constantly having issues logging in and keeping my account connected.

Stay outside of the city
- I always stay outside of the city to avoid the extra costs. Taxes are generally higher within city limits. I try to stay within a central location in case I want to go see other cities around the area.
